"Exactly how it sounds, it WAS a nightmare."
Luna flashed back to the first day of her thousand year long nightmare.
She was sitting on her balcony watching the ponies below as they prepared for that night's rest. It saddened her to watch as they slept through her night; it seemed she was the only pony that appreciated her night. This also made her extremely lonely as no pony stayed up as late as she did. So she had the entire castle practically to herself at night. The only small interaction with other ponies she got was the morning courts. Which was usually nothing more than whiney peasants trying to settle some stupid arguments over who got more chickens out of the flock. Being a "princess" in a dictatorship wasn't as much fun as one would think. Ponies expected so much from their princesses, yet they paid little respect to them, and made no efforts to learn more about them; they only asked for more, more, more.

Luna stepped onto the podium and cast her huge cheerful green eyes across the assembled guests.
"Thank you all so much for coming!" she began. "I know the party's only just started, but I thought I'd like to get all the formalities out of the way first, if I may." She turned to the old silver-maned butler standing beside her and looked at him with mock exasperation. "Apparently it's compulsory that every royal engagement have a formal component to it!"
The butler nodded once, his serene expression unchanged.
Luna turned back and continued. "I'm so sorry that it's taken me so long to formally thank the Elements of Harmony for their courageous efforts on my behalf. You all risked your lives to undo the great evil that my jealousy and selfishness had wrought and prevented a titanic disaster from befalling our beloved Equestria. So let
five hour energyi suppose
last week was only an aftershock
of the earthquake you were before.
this place used to vibrate
with metal strings and melodic,
testimonies to life,
emitting coffee-scented moods
and the burn of it too.
i had memorized the
sounds of silence,
i couldn't help but relish it.
no longer had i known
the sounds of folk
and scent of mocha-
you became nothing more
than an echo of the laughter
i so desperately needed to hear again.
then the echoes got louder,
bouncing ferociously off the walls
to be made manifest
i walked into your room
expecting exactly what i found-
an unmade bed,
and an empty beer
(the one that you insisted you needed
just days ago).
i pressed my nose
into the pillow
for incense and cologne and starbucks
to penetrate my mind
and thinking fervently
i already know
what a clean sheet smells like."
